Submit your proposal (CLOSED)

1. Full papers with oral presentation, peer-reviewed CLOSED

  • Submit 5-8 pages on ISEA2022 paper template. Please make sure your full paper PDF file is completely anonymized, i.e. contains no author-related information (no institutional affiliation, bio, author name(s) etc. in body of text or as explicit self-citations, notes and bibliography)
  • Full papers will be double-blind peer-reviewed by at least 2 anonymous independent reviewers from the International Program Committee (IPC) and ranked based on quality, relevance, originality, and impact. Conference chairs and track chairs make the final decisions of acceptance and rejection based on anonymous reviewers’ recommendations. Rejected full papers may be considered to be accepted as poster or panel submissions.
  • Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and will have 20 minutes (including Q&A) allotted presentation time at the conference.

2. Short papers with oral presentation, peer-reviewed CLOSED

  • Submit maximum 2-4 pages on ISEA2022 paper template. Please make sure your short paper PDF file is completely anonymized, i.e. contains no author-related information (no institutional affiliation, bio, author name(s) etc. in body of text or as explicit self-citations, notes and bibliography)
  • Short papers will be double-blind peer-reviewed by at least 2 anonymous independent reviewers and ranked based on quality, relevance, originality, and impact. Conference chairs and track chairs make the final decisions of acceptance and rejection on the basis of the IPC’s recommendations. Rejected short papers may be considered to be accepted as poster submissions.
  • Accepted short papers will be published in the conference proceedings and will have 15 minutes (including Q&A) allotted presentation time at the conference

3. Panels discussions, peer-reviewed CLOSED

  • Submit a panel proposal containing an introduction and abstracts from individual discussants (3-5 people) with 2-4 pages on the ISEA2022 paper template. Please make sure your panel proposal PDF file is completely anonymized, i.e. contains no author-related information (no institutional affiliation, bio, author name(s) etc. in body of text or as explicit self-citations, notes and bibliography).
  • Panel proposals will be double-blind peer-reviewed by at least 2 anonymous independent reviewers and ranked based on quality, relevance, originality, and impact. Conference chairs and track chairs make the decisions of acceptance and rejection on the basis of the IPC’s recommendations.
  • Abstracts of accepted panels will be published in the conference proceedings and will have 60 minutes (including Q&A) allotted presentation time at the conference, depending on the number of speakers.

4. Posters / Demos CLOSED

  • Submit an abstract of a maximum 2 pages on the ISEA2022 paper template. Poster / demonstration proposals do not need to be anonymized.
  • Abstracts of posters / demonstrations will be selected by conference chairs based on quality, relevance, originality, and impact. Chairs will make the final decisions of acceptance/rejection based on IPC’s recommendations
  • Abstracts of accepted posters will be published in the conference proceedings, and will be allotted a wall space (with electricity and internet connectivity by request) at the conference venue. Authors of accepted posters will be requested to stand by at their allotted location during a scheduled poster tour during the Symposium.

5. Workshops / Tutorials CLOSED

We invite proposals for half-, full- or two- day workshops and tutorials to take place during two days of ISEA2022. On the one hand, these are intended as opportunities for academics and practitioners to discuss and work on specific topics, while on the other, they are also appropriate for engaging with the general public based on local traditional culture. While workshop organizers are invited to consider the themes of ISEA2022, proposals on all matters relevant to ISEA community and beyond are welcome. Accepted workshops will be announced on the symposium website, and organizers may release their own call for submissions. Workshop organizers may request a presentation slot during the conference to report on the work done in their respective workshops and may submit a one- page abstract of their workshop proposal to be included in the proceedings. There may also be opportunities for exhibiting the outcomes of workshops and tutorials. While all accepted workshops will be provided with a room, specific needs for space and equipment can be further discussed.

To propose a workshop, submit a workshop proposal of 2-4 pages including the following:

  • Workshop/Tutorial Basic Information
  • Short Biography of the Organizers
  • Abstract
  • Plan of How to Solicit Participation
  • Preferred Venue and the List of Equipment
  • Your preference to possibly exhibit the outcomes of the workshop during the symposium

Proposals for Workshops/Tutorials will be selected by appropriate chairs based on their quality and relevance to the Symposium. Chairs will make the final decisions of acceptance/rejection based on IPC’s recommendations

6. Institutional Presentations CLOSED

  • We invite proposals for institutional presentations from communities working on matters pertaining to the themes of ISEA Symposium.
  • These proposals will be selected selected by the organizing committee, based on their relevance to ISEA’s mission. Institutional presentations are sessions that are intended as opportunities for networking and as a forum for institutions such as museums, NGOs, networks, schools, and companies to introduce themselves to the community and discuss for example organizational, financial, and curatorial matters.
  • Submit a proposal of a maximum of 2 pages on the ISEA2022 template..
  • Institutional presentations will have 10 minutes allotted presentation time at the conference, and an allotted space for presenting posters, brochures, banners, and other relevant materials. Specific space requirements for larger-format demonstrations and displays can possibly be catered for. Please specify these in the proposal.
  • Note that proposals for institutional presentations do not need to be anonymized.
  • Note that presenters of institutional presentations are not eligible for symposium fee discounts.

7. Artistic works, peer-reviewed CLOSED

We invite artwork submissions responding to the themes of the symposium including but not limited to electronic new media and emerging artworks such as installations, interactive works,online works, animation, video, audio, performances, and screenings. Please note that we also welcome artworks that do not directly respond to the themes of this symposium but are otherwise relevant to the scope of ISEA symposium. We would like to especially encourage early career and emerging artists to submit their work. Submit your CV/Portfolio (PDF format) with a proposal of 2-4 pages including the following:

  • Artist Bio (within 300 words)
  • Thematic statement (200 – 500 words)
  • Artwork proposals (300 – 800 words)
  • Images, sketches, drafts
  • Technical and logistical requirements
  • Links to video documentation online (if applicable)

Application documents should be delivered to the ISEA2022 Organizer by 11:59pm (CEST) October 30 2021.

Please note that artwork proposals do not need to be anonymized.

Artwork proposals will be juried by at least two anonymous independent reviewers and ranked based on the quality, relevance, and originality. Symposium chairs make the final decisions of acceptance and rejection based on the anonymous reviewers’ recommendations, the overall feasibility of the project, and the fit with the symposium’s exhibition program. Rejected proposals may be considered to be accepted as artist talks or as posters.

Call Conditions

1. Each applicant (individual or collective) may submit only one project to this call.

2. Artists, researchers and developers of any age and nationality can apply for these grants.

3. The selected works will be part of an exhibition at Santa Mònica during ISEA2022. The exhibition will include the dialogue of these works with other works by local artists selected a posteriori based on the results of the call, with the aim of facilitating a critical dialogue with the Santa Mònica communities of creators. The exhibition of the artworks may be extended beyond ISEA2022 depending on the synergies established with Santa Mònica activities.

4. ISEA2022 and Santa Mònica will offer the following:

  • Fees per artist: Up to1500€ gross.
  • Production budget: up to a maximum of 2000 € gross to be paid on presentation of proof of purchase.
  • Travel and maintenance: Santa Mònica will dedicate a travel grant according to the needs of each artist. Alternatively, travel grants can be supported.
  • In the case of the involvement of artists in other work processes with Santa Mònica’s communities of creators, a specific fee will be allocated, to be agreed in advance with Santa Mònica.

What is Santa Mònica?

Santa Mònica is an interdisciplinary arts centre located at Las Ramblas of Barcelona, dedicated to promoting contemporary creation. Its aim is to serve as a platform for the dissemination of contemporary creativity in Catalonia and as a space for reflection to promote debate and generate ideas about the concepts surrounding artistic creation and its relationship with the public. 8. Artist talks / Work-in-progress presentations CLOSED

  • Submit a proposal of 2-4 pages on the ISEA2022 paper template with links to appropriate documentation materials. Artist talk / work-in-progress presentation proposals do not need to be anonymized.
  • Proposals for artist talks / work-in-progress presentations will be selected by conference chairs based on quality, relevance, originality, and impact. Chairs will make the final decisions of acceptance/rejection based on IPC’s recommendations
  • Accepted artist talks / work-in-progress presentations will have 10 minutes allotted presentation time at the conference.

9. Second Summit on New Media Art Archiving CLOSED

In partnership with the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, Ars Electronica, the Archive of Digital Art (ADA), the SIGGRAPH History Archive, the Electronic Language International Festival (FILE), and the ISEA Symposium Archives, ISEA2022 announces the Second Summit on New Media Art Archiving.
