Mèdol – ‘Cuerpo Transceptor’, Citlali Hernández

Based on social live streaming platforms, Transceiver Body seeks to understand how body languages are in constant transformation when hybrid identities are constructed between the multiplicity of the digital, the complexity of the physical and the exploitation of one’s own intimacy over the Internet. The piece is the result of transdisciplinary experimentation presented as a performance based on electronic art, performance and net.art.

During the piece, a series of cameras and electronic circuits distributed the artist’s body, transmit in real time the images captured from different points of view. Simultaneously, the project’s URL receives these video signals and distributes them in different rooms that allow observing and interfering with the body’s behavior through a chat. The popularity of what a body part observes is perceived by the artist as an haptic stimulus by small motors vibrating on her skin. A word typed in a chat by an online participant is translated into robotic sound through a process called “text to speech” and becomes a trigger for movement. 

Using the body itself as a mediating membrane between online and offline audiences, the project opens questions about digital identity in relation with the vocabularies of the body when navigating between the physical and the digital, between viral images, memes, emojis and multiple version of nyam nyam cats in forever loop.

A partir de plataformes de streaming, Cuerpo Transceptor pretén entendre com els llenguatges corporals estan en constant transformació quan es construeixen identitats híbrides entre la multiplicitat del digital, la complexitat del físic i l’explotació de la pròpia intimitat a través d’Internet. La peça és el resultat d’una experimentació transdisciplinària presentada com una performance basada en l’art electrònic, la performance i el net.art.

Durant la peça, una sèrie de càmeres i circuits electrònics repartits al cos de l’artista van transmetent en temps real les imatges captades des de diferents punts de vista. Simultàniament, l’URL del projecte rep aquests senyals de vídeo i els distribueix en diferents sales que permeten observar i interferir en el comportament del cos a través d’un xat. La popularitat del que observa una part del cos és percebuda per l’artista com un estímul hàptic per part de petits motors que vibren a la seva pell. Una paraula teclejada en un xat per un participant en línia es tradueix en so robòtic mitjançant un procés anomenat “text to speech” i es converteix en un detonant del moviment.

Utilitzant el propi cos com a membrana mediadora entre el públic oline i offline, el projecte obre preguntes sobre la identitat digital en relació amb els vocabularis del cos quan es navega entre allò físic i allò digital, entre imatges virals, memes, emojis i la versió múltiple dels nyam nyam cats en bucle per sempre.
